Latest project - Writing my life story
We are getting ready to move to Arizona the end of this month. A natural and obvious consequence of such a decision necessitates going through all the junk we've accumulated over the various years. One item however is very much not a piece of junk but instead it is a treasured piece of my family history—my grandfather's life story.
Back before we had computers, word processors and verbal dictation software, there were typewriters. No, I don't mean electronic type writers. I mean, better-have-your-whiteout-handy-if-you-make-a-mistake typewriters. My Grandpa Shumate, a bit later in life, decided that he would attempt to write out his entire life story, or as much as he could remember it. Hours, days, and years were spent over an old fashioned typewriter with whiteout in hand. He painstakingly whited out, typed, retyped and in some cases reworded phrases that couldn't fit in a whited out section in order to get his life story completed.
After looking through and enjoying my Grandfather's completed labor of love it made me look inside myself and ask why I haven't started my own life story. If for no other reason I should do it for my own self benefit. Whenever I look through and read several of my own partial journals I thoroughly enjoy remembering the memories. Though it may seem a bit egotistical to assume my progeny will at least enjoy if not benefit from my written life experiences, I feel they might someday be grateful for the effort and time put into such a project as I am to my Grandfather.
Thus it is, utilizing the Drupal 7 framwork on a local WAMP stack I have begun writing my life story. Drupal is very uniquely suited to fulfill any and all creative purposes I might have for completing this project. I think what is most exciting is the opportunity to reminisce about the past and begin writing everything down. I'll let you know how it is turning out as I go along.
